Pay ATTENTION to Reproductive INTENTION: Limiters Have Needs Too (PPT, 6MB)
RESPOND undertook a secondary analysis of DHS data for 15 countries in Africa as a subset of a larger secondary analysis done to explore the current state of long-acting and permanent method (LA/PM) use globally and look at who current LA/PM users are and how they differ from other modern method users, traditional method users, and non-users. Africa was chosen as a subset since it is the only geographic area where intention to use LA/PMs is greater than the numbers of women currently using them.  This presentation is not about LA/PMs per se, however.  It is instead about the millions of women in Africa, who want no more children and yet are unable to or do not use the most effective contraceptive methods to meet their intentions. Originally presented at the USAID 11th Annual Global Health Mini-University, September 30, 2011, Washington DC.

The Role of Family Planning in Meeting the MDGs (PPT, 1.7MB)
This presentation considers the role of family planning as a way to address global challenges in health, development, equity and rights. Using current data on contraceptive use and unmet need for family planning in Eastern, Central, and Southern Africa (ECSA), it discusses progress to date as well as continued challenges for national health programs. Originally presented at the 50th ECSA Health Minister's Conference, Kampala, Uganda. (2010)

Addressing the family planning needs of people living with HIV and AIDS through integration of family planning services at an ART center in Uganda (PPT, 1.69KB)
Developed for the International Conference on Family Planning: Research and Best Practices, this presentation looks at a project to provide family planning (FP)-integrated HIV services for people living with HIV in Mbale, Uganda. Included is a discussion of an approach to integrating FP and HIV services, the range of levels of FP integration, and examples of interventions to strengthen service delivery systems in coordination with demand creation and advocacy activities. (2009)

Contraceptive Security: Incomplete without Long-Acting and Permanent Methods of Contraception. (PPT, 3.8MB)
Presented at the International Conference on Family Planning: Research and Best Practices, this presentation uses a review of key contraceptive security (CS) documents (including national and regional strategies, CS literature, and the materials of organizations working in CS), as well as a secondary analysis of Demographic and Health Survey data to make the case for the explicit inclusion of long-acting and permanent methods (LA/PMs)-IUDs, implants, vasectomy, and female sterilization-in CS definitions, strategies, plans, and programming. (2009)

Promoting Long-Acting and Permanent Methods of Contraception: Understanding and Addressing Client Concerns. (PPT, 6.3MB)
Using the results from eight different communication campaigns to promote long-acting and permanent methods (LA/PMs), this presentation considers the key issues and messages for the promotion of each method, as well as the impact of the campaigns. Originally presented at the International Conference on Family Planning: Research and Best Practices, Kampala, Uganda. (2009)
