RESPOND's Presence at Conferences and Events

RESPOND Project staff will present at several important conferences and events in the coming months.

CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL (September 2010)-Dr. Roy Jacobstein, Clinical Director for RESPOND, spoke at a meeting hosted by the CDC in Atlanta, GA, entitled Advancing Men's Reproductive Health in the United States: Current Status and Future Directions. His presentation looked at global program experiences and approaches to involving men in reproductive health and family planning Services.    

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SUPPLIES COALITION (May 2010)-Dr. Roy Jacobstein, Clinical Director for the RESPOND Project, spoke at the upcoming Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition meeting in Kampala, Uganda, May 27-29, 2010. His presentation looked at the critical need to include such long-acting and permanent methods (LA/PMs) as implants, the intrauterine device (IUD), and male and female sterilization in contraceptive security strategies and plans. Without these methods, efforts to ensure true and meaningful contraceptive choice and access will be incomplete.

WOMEN DELIVER (June 2010)-Dr. Roy Jacobstein also made a presentation at the Women Deliver conference in Washington, DC, on June 8 about efforts to revitalize the IUD in Kisii, Kenya. This was one of four presentations related to health systems strengthening on a panel entitled "Taking Innovation to Scale: Increasing Access to Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) across the Globe." The panel was moderated by Patricia MacDonald, Senior Technical Advisor, U.S. Agency for International Development, and included presenters Meg Galas, Country Representative, Population Services International/El Salvador; Ellen Israel, Senior Reproductive Health Advisor, Pathfinder; and Monica Greene, Clinical Services Director, Marie Stopes/Sierra Leone.

GLOBAL HEALTH COUNCIL (June 2010)-Dr. Nowrozy Jahan, Team Leader for Prevention of Post-Partum Hemorrhage/Maternal Health, RESPOND/Mayer Hashi (Smiling Mother) Project at EngenderHealth, spoke at the upcoming annual meeting of the Global Health Council, June 14-18, 2010. Her presentation looked at a successful pilot intervention for the prevention of postpartum hemorrhage in home deliveries through the community-based distribution of Misoprostol in Bangladesh.
